Delayed Onset of Infectious Foreign Body Granuloma for Nonabsorbable Sutures After Open Achilles Tendon Repair: A Case Report

Foreign body granulomas from sutures are more common among non-absorbable compared to absorbable and have been reported as a postoperative complication in variety of medical fields. However, only few cases delayed foreign reaction addressed with orthopedics. We present patient systemic lupus erythematosus who developed an infectious suture granuloma that extended the entire Achilles tendon was induced by nonabsorbable were used for open repair 20 years before. This resistant antibiotic treatment drainage required surgical intervention. The tumor marginally resected, continuity preserved. Histopathological examination detected many materials surrounded xanthochromic necrotic lesions lesion diagnosed granuloma. At 1 year after operation, did not exhibit exacerbation infection or recurrence tumor, she became able walk herself. To best our knowledge, this represents first report autoimmune disorder repair. Surgical intervention should be considered, conservative therapy such antibiotics may difficult.
